If the World Were Run Like Airlines
Yesterday I read an interesting news from Wall Street Journal:
If the World Were Run Like Airlines
When Airlines are sandwich shops
When closer to lunchtime, when demand for sandwiches is on its peak, the prices of sandwiches will go up.When most of the people prefer tuna than roast beef, the price of tuna sandwich will surely be the most expensive among all although the cost of producing a roast beef sandwich is higher.
When their competitors dropped bologna from its menu, the price on bologna sandwiches will be increased.
.
When Airlines are clothing shops
If you buy your jeans on Tuesday and Wednesday in February, you usually will get the cheapest price. However, if you buy in December, the price will be highest.
If you want to wear your jeans right away, it probably will cost you 10 times more with the price you buy with 30 days in advance.
Any item you purchased from them with any discounted price will be nonreturnable, unless you are willing to pay an additional $200 for exchange.
When Airlines are hotels
When you book a hotel from them, what you get are only 4 walls.
Want a bed? Extra $50.
Want to take a shower? $15 per 10-minute.
Want to watch TV? TV is included but you have to bring your own remote control, otherwise $3 for lending.
Want to reserve your room? $10.
Want to use priority elevator? $10
Checking out online is free while talking to their desk charge you $25 real-person fee.
When Airlines are markets
To make sure they cram more customers into the store, they squeezed all their aisles closer together in order to create more aisles for higher revenue per store.
You can pay higher price to get yourself a wider row, which they called "Economy Extra".
Only shoppers who enter the store first have enough room for carts.
